Troy may have to fill in the timeline details later, but this is my current understanding. At 2-something am on Thursday, 9/11/08, my Mom called and woke us up to tell us about a call she had just received from Troy. From what I remember, and what I was able to piece together later: Troy went upstairs to go to bed and found Hyatt convulsing on the bed. He immediately called 911 while trying to attend to her -- she was not breathing and her heart was not beating. Troy did his best with CPR, and a team of roughly a dozen EMS people were at the house in short time. She had aspirated a considerable amount of vomit into her lungs already at this point. They were able to restart her heart with the help of an Adrenaline shot into the heart and defibrillator treatments, and had quite an ordeal trying to extract as much stomach acid as possible from the lung and get an aspirator in her. She was rushed to the ER, and Troy stayed behind until their close friend Mary Alice was able to get to the house to watch Sidney and Rebekah. Another friend then took troy to the ER shortly behind the ambulance.
The part I understood in the early morning was that Hyatt was in the ER, her heart was beating, she was not able to breathe on her own, nobody had any idea how long her heart had been stopped, she was unconscious, and it was a complete unknown what brain activity she had, if any. I packed a bag and jumped in my car to drive from Durham NC to northern Virginia. At the same time, Hyatt's mother Jane started driving up from Greensboro and her father Herman from Myrtle beach.
We were all worried for Jane; we didn't feel like it would be particularly safe for her to be driving 5 hours in the middle of the night, with the heavy news on her mind that nobody knew whether her daughter was even alive. I got doubly worried about her driving when I saw how heavy the rain was during my drive. In retrospect, I think it was raining only about half as hard as I originally thought -- a lot of the water was on the surface of my eyes, not my windshield.

Troy/Pete,
You and your family are in my prayers. I am "friend" in Braemar. After reading the blog, I have one thing to say. Keep praying, stay strong, and never lose hope. I have just been through a very similar experience with my father(age 61). All The EEG results, posturing, breathing issues, etc..bring back memories from the unexpected event on July 14th. Stay strong and have hope. After a little over a month my father went home and continues to do remarkably well. He did suffer short term memory loss, but he is alive and with us!! The body is amazing and it just takes TIME!! with patience my dad recovers daily from this tramatic event. So much of what is in this blog is what our family experienced. It sounds like your support system is strong and you have lots of people praying. I am here to tell you IT WORKS!!!So keep praying and passing the word along. God Bless!
I don't know this family at all but, I am a teacher at Sidney's preschool and we are all praying for you. My heart breaks for everyone involved and I pray that God's will will be done and Hyatt will be healed.
Our prayers, love, concerns, and thoughts are with all of you. We love Hyatt and, from the minute we met her at her father's home, we felt very close to her and her whole family. We live across the street from Herman and we know how special she is to him and Jane and the rest of the family. We would like to thank Pete and Troy for keeping everyone up-to-date on Hyatt's daily progress. Also we would like to thank all the folks that have kept the girls so Troy could be with Hyatt. God Bless all of you and prayers are being sent up by a lot of folks, some you know and some you don't know. Our love and prayers are with you everyday. Bless You, Rudy and Maxie
My heart has been breaking for you all. I forwarded your email on to family and friends this morning that I know will be faithfully praying for your family.
I am praying for you all sincerely. A thought was shared with me earlier this week and it came to mind the second I read your email. It was said to me, "The thing about crisis is that we want understanding during it. And almost always we can't get understanding in it. The one thing we can cling to is the sovereignty of God and just put our faith in that. Sometimes we get understanding after we get through the crisis, and sometimes understanding never comes. The only thing we can do is cling to God."
I will be praying for you all to have rest and peace in Him. It is truly amazing that your brother is as strong as you have described him in the blog. That strength has to be from something greater than us.
Shaun

Dear Troy, Hyatt and Childern, You and your family are so very much in my thoughts and prayers. I know first hand what a wonderful community Bristow is and how much everyone in this community helped my family when we lost our Son who was 7, 2 years ago. Hyatt would love to have her kids with her and even if you could to place the baby in her arms. I fully believe she can hear you and feel your presence. I have been praying for your family and again my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We are here for you and we love you all.

Hello to Hyatt's family. I just learned of the news in an e-mail sent from EPA in DC. Hyatt and I met during our "survivor" EPA 2002interviews in DC. We connected immediatly and I really like her...she's smart, driven, pretty, nice, and funny! We didn't keep in close touch after we were both hired (I'm in Kansas City), but it was great when we did run into each-other. She's such a young vibrant women...with so much to live for, she has to pull through.I will pray.
