For at least the first 6 hours or so at the hospital, doctors had no idea what was wrong, but they were focusing more on stabilization than anything.
an early CT scan revealed no aneurysm, so the cause of the seizure was unknown. Hyatt had never head heart problems or seizures in her past, so the doctors were fearful of a sudden viral or bacterial attack. They loaded her up on antibiotics and drew a spinal tap. The spinal fluid was clear and came back negative for meningitis. We're waiting on results of some other test cultures.
Troy and I talked about it, and we weren't sure the idea that something a causing a seizure then causing a heart attack might not be as likely as the reverse. Occurred to us that if your heart stopped and you couldn't breathe, then wouldn't you convulse? We weren't basing this on a lot of medical expertise, but we ARE both Doctors, after all. Well, ok, "Doctors." I mentioned this idea to someone. Not really sure who, but I'm pretty sure he/she had a tag indicating employment in the medical profession.
