EEG results

I just brought Troy back over to the hospital for the night. He said he got about 9 hours of sleep there last night, which is easily twice what we got around here, so good for him -- he needs it most. Herman had been there for the past couple of hours.

The nurse came by to tell us of the EEG results the neurologist relayed to her. They found no seizure activity; that's good news, and that's what they expected. The neurologist said her one worry was that the activity levels on the EEG were not very high, but she cautioned that in these cases it can take some time for the brain to restore a decent level of activity, and we shouldn't get too upset about low amplitude results at this point. It's also possible low sedative levels can mute the EEG somewhat.

I asked her if the responses they DID see corresponded to the stimulus they gave her for the test (the poking, pinching, etc), and she said yes. I guess that was obvious to her, but Troy, Herman, and I all took that as good news.

She said Hyatt grimaced while she was messing with her face, but she didn't notice any toe wiggling while messing with her feet (this nurse had noticed that the night before, or maybe that was this morning, actually).

Tonight they'll likely have her mostly off the sedatives (as long as she's comfortable) and are hopeful they can get a good CT scan reading in the morning.

Rebekah ate a great dinner for Patricia, and Karen (Jane's brother Steve and his wife Karen are now in town as well) topped her off with a snack right before bed, and rocked her to sleep. She's sound asleep now...and appears to be on hold from staging protests over formula.

We're headed to bed now and will know more in the morning as it happens, I guess.

We continue to pray for Hyatt, and are inspired by your family's obvious commitment to life-affirming choices through your being there and focusing so much of your love on your family members most in need at this time. As intelligent as each of you are, it is not possible for you to know the power of the incredible example you are showing us and the rest of the world! God bless you, and know that God hears all of these prayers, and is moved by all of the tears. Please stay positive! As a family which has seen the mother recover from breast cancer, we have seen what positive, life-affirming faith can do!

We do have a question. With Hyatt's being a breast-feeding mom, are the doctors monitoring Hyatt for any signs of mastitis?

Pete, thank you for this blog. I was with Jane when she got Troy's phone call and have tried to keep up with her by phone since. It's reassuring to be able to get news about Hyatt directly without having to bother family members who need to be with her. I've sent the website info to the Greensboro folk who know and love Jane and Hyatt, and I will be asking my church family here in Sturbridge to pray for her, too. I know from very personal experience that prayer can heal. And I am praying for Hyatt and Troy and Sidney and Rebekah as hard as I can. I'm sending my love to them and to their extended families.

Hyatt,
My family and I are on the way out of town, and I just saw a Priest at the gas station filling up his car. Strange, for some reason...I guess it's something I never thought of, that Priests have to fill up their cars. I nearly wrote down your blog and story to walk over and ask him to pray for you. He probably has a direct line and can get through quite quickly!
I didn't approach him, though. Now it's half an hour later, and I'm still wishing I had said something.
I sent out an e-mail to family and friends who don't know you or your family. Add them to the thousands that are already thinking of and praying for you. I figured even blog notes from total strangers will let your family know that the word is spreading, hope is growing and love is everlasting.

I am your Mom and Dad's neighbor and received the e-mail yesterday about Hyatt. My Aunt and I immediately started praying. I contacted a family friend who is a nun at St. Monica's Parrish in Phila., PA and she notified me while I was on the phone with your Dad that the sisters there had already started praying for Hyatt. I had a close family member who had a massive stroke and laid for six hours until her husband came home from work and found her. The doctors all told us she would never make it and if by some slim chance she did she would be in a vegatative state. Our family never gave up on our faith in God and the power of prayer and six months later when she returned to see the neurologist she informed him she had just finished her fall house cleaning! The neurologist said in all his years of practice he had seen his first "miracle" with her and so had we. Through God's love, our prayers and Hyatt's determination may you all experience your own miracle. My thoughts and continued prayers are with the entire family.

I am a co-worker of Troy's. I've had the pleasure of meeting Hyatt a couple of times at office functions and the one thing that always sticks in my mind is their devotion to one another, which you have so clearly captured. When I heard what happened, I simply didn't believe it at first. This is an unbelievable challenge for Troy & Hyatt and it is so wonderful to see the many family and friends supporting him. Troy: If you need anything, whether that be in the next hour, day, or month, just let me know. -Dave

You all are constantly in my thoughts and prayers, and I have Hyatt on lots of prayer lists in the Greenville SC. Hyatt is a very strong person and a stong Christian, and that will, I'm sure, go a long way in her pulling through this. I anxiously await updates on her condition and am so glad that the Blog has been set up. I am letting the Davis clan know of Hyatt's situation and giving them the Blog address. I'm so glad that so many family members are there to help right now. I love you all!!!
